The Basic of Chemical Engineering | Misconceptions chemical Engg vs chemistry | Real Life Examples

Basic of Chemical Engineering
Before starting basic of chemical engineering, we must know about what chemical engineering is.  What they do, how is there life, what to study, and what are the job opportunities. Further getting the basic Idea of branch we will move towards how the practical things will be.

Misconceptions: Chemical engineer are the chemistry guys or chemistry is chemical engineering

Friends both the chemical Engineering and chemistry are different subject. But at certain level, they use each other to solve the real life industrial problem.

Let’s have an Example

A + B → C

This is the basic reaction we have studied 10th onward. It seem to be very simple in theoretically. But in practical it required lots of parameter like Temperature, pressure etc.

But in chemical Engineering both A and B need to manufacture at different places which required lots of operation.

Now we have real life example:

Ammonia manufacturing process.

In chemistry its:  Nitrogen gas + hydrogen gas → Ammonia gas (in the presence of catalyst)

It’s a lab process. As we take pre-collected gas in the form of cylinders and try to collect in the flask and perform the activity. But chemical engineer perform the reaction in large scale. Another thing is, they generate both nitrogen and hydrogen from natural resources.

These includes various Steps like:
1.     Collection of Gas from natural resources
2.     Liquefying it
3.     Reaction in kettle
4.     Separation
5.     Recycling etc.

In another words chemical engineer deals with application of chemistry in broader sense. Chemical engineer know the basic concept of chemistry and utilize it in the process of manufacturing.
Chemical engineer job is to take the chemistry in to large scale. In this branch we need to have more enthusiasm to work then other branch. Its adventures job and survival depends on your skills which u have learned in your college. After completion you can choose your carriers in agrochemicals, rubber industries, surfactant industries, organic and inorganic industries, soap, fine chemicals, pharma and many more.

Friends in my next post we will learn about the basic chemical engineering ( Under-Graduates 3 Semester course )  .
